While in normal times not all older adults living alone are isolated, the stay-at-home and social distancing mandates during the COVID-19 pandemic increased isolation for all.
Isolation combined with loneliness can result in depression, anxiety, poor health, cognitive decline, and even death.
This presentation will provide information on these issues, as well as strategies that can be utilized to maintain and increase social connections for older adults.

Dr. Tracy Schroepfer is a professor at the UW-Madison School of Social Work and a recipient of the Hartford Geriatric Social Work Faculty Scholar Award. Her research focuses on determining the best strategies for reducing health disparities faced by medically underserved communities in Wisconsin.
