Prior to volunteering, new volunteers are required to complete an application, meet with SAIL staff, and pass background and reference checks. All volunteers will receive the necessary training required for the individual role(s).

Volunteer Drivers Share a Little Social Time Together
Joan, a charter member and volunteer on SAIL’s Connections Team, is happy to get her screen replaced by fellow member and SAIL volunteer, Bob.

SAIL Member, Charlotte, loves sharing her beautiful garden with
others. When she’s not taking care of her plants, Charlotte is often volunteering her time—here at SAIL she sends thoughtful cards to members on special occasions or during challenging times. Thank you, Charlotte!
- Pick up and return members to their homes
- Typical trips involve doctor appointments, grocery stores, or banking
- Help with paperwork, minor chores, meals
- Provide computer help, house-sitting, pet care, mail pickup
- Visit member by phone or in person on a regular schedule
- Take walks or go on outings with member
- Dine out with member or attend local events
- Be an exercise partner to keep member motivated
Gardening Advice and Help
- Water and care for plants during brief absences
- Share gardening advice
- Change light bulbs, hang curtains, flip mattresses, reset clocks, test smoke alarms, etc.
- Do minor repairs
- Sweep walks
Social Events/Educational Programs
- Initiate and arrange events of interest to members
- Locate and recommend programs and social events
- Accompany member to medical appointments
- Take notes at appointments
- Assist with phone calls, mailing, filings
- Enter information into a database
- Follow-up after volunteer visits to determine member satisfaction
